Animal Man #1-26 by Grant Morrison.
Just finished it. A pretty fantastic piece of metafiction with surprising emotional weight. So cool that DC let Morrison get away with this.
And here, a savvy blogger picked up on the similarities between Animal Man and Cabin in the Woods.

Superman spent his childhood baling hay on a farm, he’s a working class hero and people don’t like that. Whereas Batman is a billionaire who sleeps until three in the afternoon, puts on a rubber suit and beats the shit out of poor people. Now that’s a wish fulfilment fantasy.

After reading it all I can say is that I trust Grant Morrison. It doesn’t feel like Superman just yet, but I know it will…

Next time on “The Misadventures of Moore and Morrison,” Moore complains that Morrison, DC, and Marvel stole the concept of mushrooms from him, and he vows never to work with any of them again. Then, after a rant about how his former employers are enriching themselves using the characters they paid him to create for them, he proceeds to use the characters of other writers to enrich himself. — Ryking
